There are a couple great sites: weloveyouso.com and terribleyelloweyes.com. The work is fabulous and a wonderful tribute to this truly magical book. So, illustrator number three, Bruno Mallart. I am very inexperienced in collage. sometimes I find it overwhelming. But I am very drawn to it when the collage is added with paintings or drawings by the artist. Mallart explores this kind of mixed medium work in a very enticing and visually and thoughtfully exciting style. Image and website: http://www.brunomallart.com/<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUQIFCeFK-NysQg-85xJSYw2slZYvmZdXnyV8G6qfisLiIeLzl2tn1aNs4xJ_d5fUy4cBGDLF5uBH1Rx7jXcF9mHVTUJMKaSj6ZnDh2CORu198rwvBMQVZ4FYk-IGN6RVDexYBBEQFRJCu/s1600-h/4178-still.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 180px; height: 220px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUQIFCeFK-NysQg-85xJSYw2slZYvmZdXnyV8G6qfisLiIeLzl2tn1aNs4xJ_d5fUy4cBGDLF5uBH1Rx7jXcF9mHVTUJMKaSj6ZnDh2CORu198rwvBMQVZ4FYk-IGN6RVDexYBBEQFRJCu/s400/4178-still.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294203905775820706" border="0" /></a>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-33881109191580378772009-01-22T10:08:00.000-08:002009-01-22T11:18:15.041-08:00Edward Julius Detmold...Illustrator number two. If I were to post all of the interesting images I come across everyday i would have the whole internet linked to my page but here it goes. Edward Julius Detmold's work involves illustrating and exploring nature and natural history. Many of the drawings and paintings are of animals and wildlife. While some are for books specifically, there seems to be a relationship of nature and biology influencing Detmold and that inspiration drives the illustration as opposed to the strict drawing of the animal, per say. That relationship interests me. Again, here's one image and the website I obtained it from. http://www.bpib.com/illustra2/detmold.htm<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWWOHnBMwF0EXeBrVj7NI6X6jZ4AqOB-CpFKBMt5RlqG50SuoGGRv1SmKH7qaFdSAhVnPVN3aVFj9wxdwyDiceQXMK65uVZdDf8EesZQQHihhjdJd8qESc9NhHHOHw4maBV6xk9NvhvyKw/s1600-h/detmold9.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 190px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWWOHnBMwF0EXeBrVj7NI6X6jZ4AqOB-CpFKBMt5RlqG50SuoGGRv1SmKH7qaFdSAhVnPVN3aVFj9wxdwyDiceQXMK65uVZdDf8EesZQQHihhjdJd8qESc9NhHHOHw4maBV6xk9NvhvyKw/s400/detmold9.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294199196331268226" border="0" /></a>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-59875934667822277982009-01-22T09:56:00.001-08:002009-01-22T10:02:18.213-08:00Illustrators Galore!Hey everyone. My blog is going to transform a bit and continue down the path or my art exploration. However, i guess I have already mixed my personal life with my art on this blog and in real life so really why try to organize multiple blogs. its all my life so here it goes.<br /><br />First day of illustration today. I've been in the lab researching some illustrators to start thinking about the field, inspiration, etc. The first current illustrator to stand out in my search was Michael Morgenstern. He has done a lot of work with magazines but what struck me about his work was the content. On first impression he works a lot in the political and social realm of things which seems fitting given current events, cough, inauguration, cough. (which I hope everyone watched) His work seems very conceptual and I think it is wonderful to have such thought provoking images that match what I can only guess to be thought provoking text. Here is just one example of his work. The rest can be found at his website: http://www.mmorgenstern.com/<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihA2hmAX1ufuFAXVAQO953E1bGsxbRBQhR_ShU216OW6LZVNd9u7o74-0YIAXONdKvrDij6B7F77oxl0JXYebxKvIxmqlld-dMUJx31_QBIvMxS35JNuAZaIGnV2HjY_1bG9S2dJoyFQZ-/s1600-h/1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 239px; height: 350px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihA2hmAX1ufuFAXVAQO953E1bGsxbRBQhR_ShU216OW6LZVNd9u7o74-0YIAXONdKvrDij6B7F77oxl0JXYebxKvIxmqlld-dMUJx31_QBIvMxS35JNuAZaIGnV2HjY_1bG9S2dJoyFQZ-/s400/1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294179858933708770" border="0" /></a>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-22224644009425634442009-01-07T03:06:00.000-08:002009-01-07T03:08:53.839-08:00Dear Mom,haha. I dont think anyone else reads this anymore but I am going to keep posting. Well. til I get home. Then I don't really have to because I can see all of your beautiful faces. And those faces are what is going to help me through the culture shock of the states. It is going to be a big one. So you'll all have to ebar with me and the adjustment period. But I am so excited to see everyone and show you my pictures and work and what I have been blabbing on about on this page for the past 4 months or more. I hope everyone had a safe new years and those going back to school don't dread it too much. :) Let me know when I can come visit everyone. I will be going back to school the 19th. I'll be home in 2 days. Farewell europe! How I'll miss thee. <3Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-1353410570490695212008-12-27T06:16:00.000-08:002008-12-27T06:24:12.459-08:00Merry Belated Christmas!!!!Hey everyone. I talked to a bunch of you on Christmas but for those i didnt get a chance to talk to I hope you ahd a wonderful day. Jilli and I are in Killarney now enjoying the gorgeous mountains. We took a walk through the national park. This irish guy gave us a mini tour of one of the pathways. We thought that was very welcoming. Then later on we saw him walking around with a different group of kids our age. We think he might have taken it upon himself to be the free tour guide of Killarney national park. Either way we had a lovely 3.5 hour walk around the park.<br /><br />Unfortunately Jilli didn't get the best sleep last night so she is taking a power nap now and I am checking up on emails and bus schedules and such so that everything is squared away for when we leave ireland for big bad paris tomorrow. Lots of museums up ahead! And hopefully we will have a sunny day in paris so we can get a good view from eiffel tower.<br /><br />The sun finally cam out for jilli today. I was worried that she would have visited Ireland for 10 days without seeing the sky (its been overcast for 8 days). But the sun poked out and there isn't a cloud in the sky. We miss and love everyone very much. I'll be back in Waterford in 13 days, on Jan 9th, and Jilli goes straight back to D.C. I'll have some pictures up when i get to paris because my friend eliza will have he laptop so we can get the wireless in the apartment. Hope all is going well back home. We miss you!!! <3Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-13858694989259923812008-12-12T07:58:00.000-08:002008-12-13T07:49:03.342-08:00Ahhhhhhh!<div>So the last couple weeks have been crazy. Our exhibition went up and then got taken down. We packed up. 6 of the 10 roommates left at 5:30 am this morning. Its been insane. I've been behind with my journal and blog. Hopefully now that I will be traveling around maybe i'll have some time to post some pictures. I dont have time to write too much about my pieces. Last quick update for today. (well not so quick because there are a lot of pictures) Nana and Grandpa keep trying to make sure that I am eating well so I thought I would post proof that I eat well at least one night a week. (I can't lie, the rest of the nights include spaghetti and paninis of pb and nutella) However my friends, eliza and <a href="http://mattaustin.wordpress.com/">matt</a>, and I decided it was nice cooking together for one of the potluck dinners so we now cook one meal a week together. Usually it includes a soup which means we have dinner for a couple nights that week and it works out economically as well. Here is an example of one of our meals with dumplings and homemade vegetable and bean soup:</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3_agxY_QjMyQ-nTMW24Yg4M-smY_jh9S2uMFprHM-CubIXz_4fhAU45mMiScQpgOEgLC05teG0aVY01p-P7bgGNHjlcFpVbAKJxV2ZwvYAFgGc54I8aE9F-g1GCr2t0HDaRojuvtU0JE6/s1600-h/DSC04556.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3_agxY_QjMyQ-nTMW24Yg4M-smY_jh9S2uMFprHM-CubIXz_4fhAU45mMiScQpgOEgLC05teG0aVY01p-P7bgGNHjlcFpVbAKJxV2ZwvYAFgGc54I8aE9F-g1GCr2t0HDaRojuvtU0JE6/s400/DSC04556.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264868899211101586" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">^Yummy Food</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Two weekends ago 13 of the students here, mostly photo kids, went to Charleville Castle in Tullamore. It is one of the most haunted castles in Ireland and has been on many tv shows including Britain's most haunted, etc. etc. However we arrived there for the weekend (about a 28 hour stay) and it was one of the most peaceful weekends we have all had while in Ireland. We all were on assignment for class and so people were taking pictures, drawing, filming and doing performances all over the castle and the grounds.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkdShJRh_xRML9rQqMRBVupNA1Qw4ZXDuh4fwPqWz3wOVYT1IsJAVVAYXUCYo3Lo7rSwbaQSpFOu7o9c1Ez7p6g7UdGxpfKEb7kKv8D0ZqOUq_KSFcwNlYWEsvGjn3XHfr4M_wW1Ix945p/s1600-h/DSC04580.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkdShJRh_xRML9rQqMRBVupNA1Qw4ZXDuh4fwPqWz3wOVYT1IsJAVVAYXUCYo3Lo7rSwbaQSpFOu7o9c1Ez7p6g7UdGxpfKEb7kKv8D0ZqOUq_KSFcwNlYWEsvGjn3XHfr4M_wW1Ix945p/s400/DSC04580.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264868890379582578" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">^Anna's site of performance/filming</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTErS0kJSPF1othSOjBz3ZIsolHv_btsK5f2xg-jaZJRyL60ikG_lxjabuqlYr5eWEkmm5AQ8aRMVU4ePNappfBSljjtJgx_3A3eCabGs98IOZCuFYRUmK6o8IXD4g7fgVib3pUmyQvFS3/s1600-h/DSC_0061.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTErS0kJSPF1othSOjBz3ZIsolHv_btsK5f2xg-jaZJRyL60ikG_lxjabuqlYr5eWEkmm5AQ8aRMVU4ePNappfBSljjtJgx_3A3eCabGs98IOZCuFYRUmK6o8IXD4g7fgVib3pUmyQvFS3/s400/DSC_0061.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264868881712340562" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">^Chandelier in the gathering area</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOenXXou-vKKGszgo96eQmYCXLDMjC28t9jpgnAEmlTbCYHTA0Y_A9v127sB_LAwdVdvUbB_DapX4eeJdtx9ISXwZ837yyroyG3Akatni7IdN-1VEIg56Zphnd6Hzd1lRZVIgBAKCvape4/s1600-h/DSC_0091.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOenXXou-vKKGszgo96eQmYCXLDMjC28t9jpgnAEmlTbCYHTA0Y_A9v127sB_LAwdVdvUbB_DapX4eeJdtx9ISXwZ837yyroyG3Akatni7IdN-1VEIg56Zphnd6Hzd1lRZVIgBAKCvape4/s400/DSC_0091.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264868874490280034" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">^Eliza drawing in the room we drew in for 3 and a half hours without realizing it.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>The rest of the night consisted of watching and participating in Anna's performance/movie, drawing by candlelight, sitting by the fire, photographing some more and holding a seance. I was part of the seance. Some of you know how terrified I get just by walking in the dark but it was a cool experience and we experienced some interesting things. However when the seance was done it was around 4 in the morning and Eliza and I were still awake drawing, though the drawings got more interesting as the night went on and we got more and more delirious/tired. I eventually fell asleep for half an hour at 7, though technically it was 6 because we had daylight savings time. He took us on a 7 mile hike right in our backyard of the college. We followed the Burren Way onto the mass path which was the road the people walked on to get to mass when all the protestants were trying to rid themselves of the catholics. It took us all the way around the mountain I climb and am always talking about. It was wonderful.<div><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgawS8k5babxMs3rDEQSNC7i3rS8Bsf_1Adv238ClUuMPoI5G_kHqnZ1OFA31WrROjyiuJNFBhhZEL-ITIexqn2lyJIyYUVQlWZL3OOzd77L67w4dD3q2OOh6PK4J28nVzobNFaNs-fyRiY/s400/DSC04444.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264860636155117026" /><div style="text-align: center;">^ Matt an Gordon. There is a road called the Burren Way. It circles most of the Burren and passes through Ballyvaughan all the way down to the cliffs. THe four of us decided it would be fun to take a day trip to the cliffs and then walk home on the Burren Way. So we took a bus to the cliffs, walked around amazed, then we started walking back to Doolin. However it was about 10-11 km back to just Doolin and it was already 3:30. When we finally got to Dooling we saw this sign that said 29Km to Ballyvaughan. At that point we decided we had given a valiant effort however we were soaked because it rained on us and decided to grab a pint, some dinner and get a taxi home. However it was an amazing day and we were all still very proud of turning the situation around and having a silly evening.<br /> </div>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-88799895569614611662008-10-17T03:42:00.000-07:002008-10-17T03:54:12.642-07:00Project<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyVu1z8KMooA60PuOw__BAZkzfMT8ocz4hVec4cSFw5_oxdZUMWi3TGJP7c47I2zuYen5U1h7w1iRou1jUjdySUFEeTC8u8zTA5oJNQlCdEWwXw__CuJmc4hkFd_Mh-gbJ4IzY1tM9pfqS/s1600-h/DSC04314.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><br /></span></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyVu1z8KMooA60PuOw__BAZkzfMT8ocz4hVec4cSFw5_oxdZUMWi3TGJP7c47I2zuYen5U1h7w1iRou1jUjdySUFEeTC8u8zTA5oJNQlCdEWwXw__CuJmc4hkFd_Mh-gbJ4IzY1tM9pfqS/s1600-h/DSC04314.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">I thought after yesterday I would just give a quick recap of my mixed media project so you guys can see the kind of work that I'm doing that doesn't involve my drawing. Sorry I haven't been posting lately. I think we should take it as a good sign though meaning I am keeping busy. I just wanted to give a quick overview of the past two weeks or so. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking since this post is long enough with just the pictures.</div><div><br /></div><div>So below is part of the stone pavement at the top of our mountain behind school which we just learned is 1024 ft tall. Eliza and I ventured to the top on one of our 5 hikes of last week. We saw the sunrise twice and the sunset once. Matt, Eliza and I had quite the week of working and hiking from the 5th to the 11th. So I went on a walk to the right along the top of the mountain while Eliza took a nap on the pavement. </div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEByhsR_ivJeQLcNhwclEFby-V9YSYUyrDcquTOcH_so3r79ZxH7rK3q9x9zkWo802_Eyl7SpMjoeoyccUJY2avAj6RXfTGBC7EI6YjbWeej3ccy56pfyw_9Zs7n2hx0uj34vQFxiIjvDZ/s1600-h/DSC04196.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEByhsR_ivJeQLcNhwclEFby-V9YSYUyrDcquTOcH_so3r79ZxH7rK3q9x9zkWo802_Eyl7SpMjoeoyccUJY2avAj6RXfTGBC7EI6YjbWeej3ccy56pfyw_9Zs7n2hx0uj34vQFxiIjvDZ/s400/DSC04196.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257751323267472370" /></a>I found that there are walls all along the top of our mountain forming beautiful lines and causing myself some confusion as to why they would be up there.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbMNSpqgx1r9ZZtumBDEtv-3KZqHMTNkmIb9UMjUUP1_N3oDVwdpoPh68cFI05O4J4EvDbWc8VBf1NwTOB7TfNpJ_pgWW9GQJL5R_2W4TT1pnTMV_mRGfyke2-qVEeXaN4M7_O6TUsPVlk/s1600-h/DSC04211.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbMNSpqgx1r9ZZtumBDEtv-3KZqHMTNkmIb9UMjUUP1_N3oDVwdpoPh68cFI05O4J4EvDbWc8VBf1NwTOB7TfNpJ_pgWW9GQJL5R_2W4TT1pnTMV_mRGfyke2-qVEeXaN4M7_O6TUsPVlk/s400/DSC04211.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257751332240571570" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV49Yeldxs2yTqkNVwT3jQEtjrlCBi7zs-E3qANHk20-25k1tlzae5_epj9_TDKPiywdh07299swRAiIFtjYa1CVJhKpXhkK7Br1XscfzmjlERzkBcMdt_leK5PEeQ17jC8WDC8Yr5q-Gx/s1600-h/DSC04258.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><br /></a></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV49Yeldxs2yTqkNVwT3jQEtjrlCBi7zs-E3qANHk20-25k1tlzae5_epj9_TDKPiywdh07299swRAiIFtjYa1CVJhKpXhkK7Br1XscfzmjlERzkBcMdt_leK5PEeQ17jC8WDC8Yr5q-Gx/s1600-h/DSC04258.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">And on my walk along the walls I happened upon this glacial valley (2 pictures down.) I found this one and later informed Eliza about it and now it is her favorite spot. She claimed in this picture right below that it was the softest rock she had ever sat on. Haha. Sometimes the cold of the mountain makes us appreciate a good sitting area. The rest of these pictures of the mountain below were taken on the 11th when Eliza Matt and I went on a 5 hour hike up our mountain, walking the whole length of it til we got to Galway Bay, down to the road, and then an additional hour walk back to our house.</span></a><div><br /></div><div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV49Yeldxs2yTqkNVwT3jQEtjrlCBi7zs-E3qANHk20-25k1tlzae5_epj9_TDKPiywdh07299swRAiIFtjYa1CVJhKpXhkK7Br1XscfzmjlERzkBcMdt_leK5PEeQ17jC8WDC8Yr5q-Gx/s1600-h/DSC04258.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); "></span><img style="text-align: left; display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; cursor: pointer; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV49Yeldxs2yTqkNVwT3jQEtjrlCBi7zs-E3qANHk20-25k1tlzae5_epj9_TDKPiywdh07299swRAiIFtjYa1CVJhKpXhkK7Br1XscfzmjlERzkBcMdt_leK5PEeQ17jC8WDC8Yr5q-Gx/s400/DSC04258.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257751341296117682" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFxo_W42YAtJroNAAoWN8jKp-aNNlEr5_Pt1jCdzr7mvcWbAjtAdol_4a7qZfk8XcBmOX2Z7lj3DI-hX-5_7h9P0xedsDwlD-LF6NiF7NZxm2NPub0Cneb5yhAum6KSF5LlEwf2UNnrXkc/s1600-h/DSC04205.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFxo_W42YAtJroNAAoWN8jKp-aNNlEr5_Pt1jCdzr7mvcWbAjtAdol_4a7qZfk8XcBmOX2Z7lj3DI-hX-5_7h9P0xedsDwlD-LF6NiF7NZxm2NPub0Cneb5yhAum6KSF5LlEwf2UNnrXkc/s400/DSC04205.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257751343928061282" /></a>On our hike of the top of the mountain we found this stone wall circle that I have seen a few says earlier. We have all been working really hard and a lot of us had a crazy project due for mixed media which I will describe at a later date when I am not delirious. We were at school til 5 in the morning working on our stuff. And I would say that until that point I had thought I was on track and not procrastinating. Just underestimated how long some things would take. But we got pretty silly before half the people went home and John, below, decided to do some swing dancing flips. THe movie at the end of the post is him flipping me. However the picture just below is of John and the hole I put in his shirt from flipping me and the pen in my back pocket tearing a hole in his shirt. It was a good work break. Just wanted to make sure you guys knew that even though I am at school all the time we are still having tons of fun. I'll leave you now to enjoy the video. Love al of you.</div><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcUptJTOcARx2uGHn1GNrzw-1ZgERtP_YGO0inwxDExVTlHZFT1Pc4plfdU7Q5_ikLk0tiDxJKShImfd1clyM5iztJCtUkY2CYOhmehs5brkzUXPdVsvajnrqe-VgmFtIHoCWECAFWYmRf/s1600-h/DSC04311.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcUptJTOcARx2uGHn1GNrzw-1ZgERtP_YGO0inwxDExVTlHZFT1Pc4plfdU7Q5_ikLk0tiDxJKShImfd1clyM5iztJCtUkY2CYOhmehs5brkzUXPdVsvajnrqe-VgmFtIHoCWECAFWYmRf/s400/DSC04311.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257750069941971586" /></a><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyXDshLI0pc5KMuwffRHQo_r4Z3mZgTvVEhD-Xgxux0H1trO7T6UOizjsYtQJe5Dx2rOCAbsgWxM7SeP_9TMg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe><br /></div></div></div></div>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-82961363134422322412008-10-05T08:25:00.000-07:002008-10-05T09:28:12.791-07:0027 hour days...I can't remember the last time I pulled an all nighter but this one was a little on accident. But very necessary for a number of reasons. It ended up with a 4:30 am trip back to school to work and a mountain climb to view the sunset rising over ballyvaughan at around 7:45. As you can tell the trip to the aran islands was cancelled this weekend and threw our plan for a loop. But I'll have pictures of the sunrise soon and I think it might be a more common thing for me. It was beyond description. Being on the mountain is the most surreal feeling yet sometimes it feels like the only real thing about this experience. I hope all of you can make it here at some points in your lives. It will change them. I promise. Ok. Now that I have probably made you all upset that I am not sleeping enough I have to go do some more work so that I can go catch the sunset from the mountain. But in a good way as usual. I didn't get in my normal sunday/monday post because monday we had a field trip for photo and we were gone from 9:30 til 8:30 and then I stayed at school to work until 12:45. So I started my week off with quite a bang and we are still plugging along. I have lots of different projects going on and my day usually just consists of either going to class or working on my pinhole camera, drawing for my advanced drawing project or researching/working on my next mixed media assignment. i.e. I am at school all the time. Which is wonderful. It has totally changed the way I look at working and creating. To have so much time to dedicate to my work and myself is amazing. And what is even more amazing is that I get to share it with everyone else here who is also working just as hard and here for just as long. That is a lot of time to spend with everyone and certainly makes for an interesting and hilarious bonding atmosphere. <div><br /></div><div>I thought quickly I would just talk a little about my advanced drawing project since it has its roots in the place I am in, The Burren and Ireland. I was awestruck from the first day of driving into Ballyvaughan as I saw the landscape unfold and I noticed all of the stone walls. So my work kind of took off from there.</div></span><img style="text-decoration: underline;display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxRYyCeMsAqK7Rhqr3Ur_Iq4Naq8GIMihRWAdfpHlm5Zdy8eGx2HSQ9unn5Wqi_rkWLPGcfOc3mQ6KBVnYjmxQ4JppOr8vK-2WMlQh57yk-QZRYvOHh3V0YNulLzuS-qf4qUzKySEYWJxn/s400/DSC04184.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252174871628002402" /></a>The picture above was taken from up on the mountain about halfway up. I put it in photoshop and enlarged it to the size of apiece of A1 paper. Which equals about 8 sheets of paper, and taped them together. Then I stuck it to a big window and put a blank piece of paper over it and traced/drew the stone walls. What resulted is shown in the picture below.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZh-MoTxBHXvdazg2wH11-thWTROiw3QC6cBDcxz4A7UlBfZoRCQZuylfVMJJdIAHyv0jGItA8fkLnpdohjAL6Mz5hlP6Z16KfY9qiWdt3OJ9ysSd9dSt_ZqHqCpVcOYVHL6f4aRswstIh/s1600-h/DSC04182.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZh-MoTxBHXvdazg2wH11-thWTROiw3QC6cBDcxz4A7UlBfZoRCQZuylfVMJJdIAHyv0jGItA8fkLnpdohjAL6Mz5hlP6Z16KfY9qiWdt3OJ9ysSd9dSt_ZqHqCpVcOYVHL6f4aRswstIh/s400/DSC04182.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252174872057048658" /></a>It is a small picture and hard to see but if you can blow it up you can see the walls really define the landscape and the town. There is so much to explain behind them I couldn't possibly do it here but this is kind of the jumping point of my exploration of the walls and Ireland so we'll see how it goes. <br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpfGC957kTsmqnH5sE4x_PxtakUjZlQF5tjpStoe-Hzj6W0_-qS_sS_41BYbnPBO-9KsRpx1-Mb6NBCJDzVZr4VqEqQhPwZ2hGFKuDa2WotUB8Brqlk1kru2zZPJ4JCX_GLpD0plAJ2Unv/s1600-h/DSC04183.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpfGC957kTsmqnH5sE4x_PxtakUjZlQF5tjpStoe-Hzj6W0_-qS_sS_41BYbnPBO-9KsRpx1-Mb6NBCJDzVZr4VqEqQhPwZ2hGFKuDa2WotUB8Brqlk1kru2zZPJ4JCX_GLpD0plAJ2Unv/s400/DSC04183.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252174878776775810" /></a>This is a detail of the stone wall drawing.<div><br /></div><div>Additionally, shown below, I have been starting to work on a larger scale. So as you can see this is my whole studio wall taken up by this drawing. Again bad picture but try to blow it up and you'll be able to see. It is in its very early stages and I don't really know where to go with it yet but I've got ideas. :)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5L9f7faryP_iwvxd2d_xjbKWEZnRAtxr6Ja_AmxFkXq0Zf4-MY2bvCJM7VVKtScD-xFqMHCH-LiLE1IlCd-FAYiw7_YkyLLamxyBgdZDcmPuCPDREXYNoZRrM_eLb9ue5r7t9j59jZByv/s1600-h/DSC04185.JPG"><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5L9f7faryP_iwvxd2d_xjbKWEZnRAtxr6Ja_AmxFkXq0Zf4-MY2bvCJM7VVKtScD-xFqMHCH-LiLE1IlCd-FAYiw7_YkyLLamxyBgdZDcmPuCPDREXYNoZRrM_eLb9ue5r7t9j59jZByv/s400/DSC04185.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252174882215994114" /></a>Below is a detail of the large drawing. Again, another stone wall. Its just a contour drawing of the stones. So far it as been my way of representing the stone and trying to structurally break it down because rocks are really hard to draw. You'd be surprised. So I've just been exploring different ways of representing them on paper. These line drawings are just the beginning, or maybe I will develop them further. We'll see. <br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA-sjkKzANAeqp4WL3wycQXcpjNfV3gzvvq5WKBD-HMfN6zuaXHbVXTKNRl7OJVgXV7BMj-PuSYDGxNAlPo4hkgZtJcb6ZnmTuQ3B3898iHHaDGca-ecEQyBfroD9l8TscT9jgqfmzaNcE/s1600-h/DSC04186.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA-sjkKzANAeqp4WL3wycQXcpjNfV3gzvvq5WKBD-HMfN6zuaXHbVXTKNRl7OJVgXV7BMj-PuSYDGxNAlPo4hkgZtJcb6ZnmTuQ3B3898iHHaDGca-ecEQyBfroD9l8TscT9jgqfmzaNcE/s400/DSC04186.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252174883255289826" /></a>It is a hard task to update on work that is the opposite of a finished body of work but I wanted to give you guys a little view into the work I'm doing. Had a great day in photography. We worked with pinhole cameras. i.e. boxes with photo paper at the back and a pinhole on the opposite side of the box. you let it sit for a certain number of seconds. And then on the paper you have a negative, just like with film cameras. THen you use the paper negative after its developed to make a positive print. They are SO much fun. I can't wait to make my own out of all sorts of boxes. It was a good day of class. (my photo class goes from 9:30-4:30) <br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYFQTNxUXHRCL_a8JnDv-Fdj1wShzaoXE6nH2kpM9yJG1-poSxJWn3rgl4k8R-V9LAwwCy7U_mZo6l7afSZxRS0rywuy4SEETOd0Un4Ezl2Fkjbk2ulgV6FY0lYOBfsBNZGRD3sOEbvKJn/s400/DSC04092.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248930399838848546" />The picture above is of one of the pinhole negatives. below is the positive print from it.<div><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMjyjNZN1_Z82qCL5Z0bIwkrgaCV3hmvJJiRz5mwKqbth6KsbXcmPEwBk1s6MOqC8DqcNlQNwqlVMPII5PtxcZdKe54_a9VTfhBO0498O5RFUWnVAOB2CzDnZF1rmM5-twYixq3ijP5vQU/s400/DSC04093.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248930408440706370" /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9wGX5LvY99hWAtuyUMw1jKEtF4dL10jru9HyvV0IO5JPVVAc5R_X7GuQWZSv5flF1BlpJuGcxcHypjZVxi-jJOxPnSu78Sq-rl1U9MmYZ9LM6wOQWqxeQBy5awfph26IbVbWtDpfcCaxR/s400/DSC04091.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248930412939251714" />I gave you them side by side for a better comparison. :)</div><div><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5oWQmUe8eUNN0jA0VmOv93UC0Mwyd0oFJ_PesanXnL23j65C_K1zyU7jaTw-yXXhD5lJwNwjzlLxgoMFMoo3fd_UOaD8wf5V2_Don61rQu59UH4G_Vr3UOK6__f75q1-_zLKRzQc7LVUW/s400/DSC04099.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248930419598179138" />Again, negative above and positive below. I would answer that no other way but Hell Yes. This place is insane. I can't do it justice here. I will try and get some pictures up of my work so you guys know what I mean. The inspiration from the landscape and the entire country is so overwhelming some of us can't even get over it.</div><div><br /></div><div> The first day I climbed the mountain behind school all I could say was "This is insane. This is amazing. I love this place." Matt and I went up the mountain for a long time last wednesday and we were still saying, "Wow, I can't believe we are living here. This place is crazy. This is gorgeous." We had to sprint down the mountain to make it back before dark because we kept stopping to admire the view or the terrain. I wish all of you could visit here at some point. I love it. But I have so so so so so so so much work to do. Which is wonderful. I hope it continues this way. Time to go! Love you!<div><br /></div><div>p.s. We jsut really bonded with this one. So here is Eliza chilling on her bed. But you can also see the sun shining through the large windows. It was absolutely gorgeous all weekend. Not one drop of rain, and Saturday was so sunny and warm that we all walked around in t shirts complaining that we brought so many layer with us. haha. Also, we were all a little sad that everyone had the option to stay another night in Dublin, we just had to book our own hostel night and bet a bus back. And only 6 of us chose to stay. And It was 6 of the 9 of us that chose to stay the extra night in Galway as well. I am making sure I get the most out of this trip and I think that means spending as much time absorbing every aspect of Ireland there is and doing it in a way that I really et to bond with the people here. I hope that on the next trip we can convince more of the housemates to stay and have a good time with us. :)</div><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlMFSgkoeNnJMw-7ZjYml_pZMvtlRC_zRb_riR1eCxnAV_3cJ-guFEXage1hSX06rr4udJs2vtu71HtUlrCQh8ABoJ2SIzeIbXKkX_2YCWekgIoXFxooqHYBh2rM0idxRdAP0iWPsnvNrl/s1600-h/DSC04072.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlMFSgkoeNnJMw-7ZjYml_pZMvtlRC_zRb_riR1eCxnAV_3cJ-guFEXage1hSX06rr4udJs2vtu71HtUlrCQh8ABoJ2SIzeIbXKkX_2YCWekgIoXFxooqHYBh2rM0idxRdAP0iWPsnvNrl/s400/DSC04072.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248486717182115394" /></a></div><div>Here is the archway into Trinity College. It was very impressive looking. Gorgeous buildings accented by the wonderful weather. We walked through here a lot to cut down on walking on the busy sidewalks and it really helped as a landmark for navigating around Dublin, which I must say Eliza and I and some of the others got really good at.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz3SLP7vLMUCzuL4mHnVe5xGhKyz10Bj7TUi_OAPSOwd3GHMFbNpchN4yF2WBDSxWha2n6EP5vCUd0OipqbcogD436TLOd5WWM2BAZFsaXqDlQ_plhUjYfEKgthw16AFkHO17a50Jtjt_7/s400/DSC04071.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248486335986593858" />Saturday morning, while walking to the National Library to go to the W.B. Yeats exhibition (which was totally awesome), we saw that someone must have played a practical joke hte night before and put dishwashing soap in the fountain. There were bubbles everywhere. It was hilarious. Matt, Mike and I were walking so fast we almost didn't notice, but Suzie and Eliza told us to slow down and stop and smell the roses and have a look across the road and see the fountain. :)</div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwc4xqOD9niqT15DZaqbUNfaSHChKhU9pGb0wyaIh8lkq9II1T6vhU8uUO6XSxEtpfyzrtIyXahhvYf_8fbrGJt0qV30BEVZl0fZcr7X30w5pbhcGyP0Wp2kSKb4n_oS-lUos_D-WAko0w/s1600-h/DSC04075.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwc4xqOD9niqT15DZaqbUNfaSHChKhU9pGb0wyaIh8lkq9II1T6vhU8uUO6XSxEtpfyzrtIyXahhvYf_8fbrGJt0qV30BEVZl0fZcr7X30w5pbhcGyP0Wp2kSKb4n_oS-lUos_D-WAko0w/s400/DSC04075.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248486723885807986" /></a></div><div>I included this last picture jsut to prove how many street performers there were around Dublin. I have never seen so many football tricks, guitarists, leprachauns, living statues, and silver people in my life. They were on every street. Multiple performers on every street. I was entertaining. These young boys attracted quite a crowd. And it was funny because they were on the very same street that part of Once was filmed on. THis was the street Glen Hansard performed on. Jilli, by the way, I spent an hour of my Friday night sitting in Meetinghouse Square, Temple Bar watching Once being projecting onto a screen on the side of a building with hundreds of other people from all over the world. I wanted you to be there so bad. It was amazing. I'm happy I got to share the experience of Once on the big screen with Matt, mike and John, becuase I remembered how much of a moment it was when i saw it with you and Maddie. :) Love you guys.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-48591045662122893792008-09-21T07:23:00.001-07:002008-09-21T07:43:59.155-07:00Dublin: Galleries, galleries, museums, and more galleries<div style="text-align: left;">And so this past weekend, Thursday through Saturday night, consisted of our trip to Dublin. There was a lot to do and see and I was so overwhelmed I didn't take that many pictures but I think i got a pretty good overview. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpB6eIdSAgZc8O5APQbx3PH8JIiOJPIOnc0P4LDzsMm43Nte7TYOdbGm7mieMLH3S6Sf3z1hDRytIDOUWbVy8v0-7IYgznoCkARzy87P3g4Lhy_zkV4yqKcKmt7C8N6atdDLl2p6JgzTFZ/s400/DSC04048.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248481012084922738" />The picture above shows one view of the Ireland Museum of Modern Art from the Formal Gardens. After looking through all of the exhibitions I went outside with the boys to explore the gardens. And they wanted to take naps. (which is understandable considering our bad planning of going to Greene's Pub the night before for traditional music and not going to sleep until 1 am and then waking up to leave for dublin at 5:45 am.) But we got our cat naps in where we could and IMMA was one of those places. They had a really awesome contemporary drawing exhibition in one of the side buildings and it was by far some of the better work in the whole museum. Well, at least I thought so. :)<br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdvzhrtkBBCpwTO8R204w_ln936vsVtBIcoaJTNSjUgTdhef6ROJF2ud4vYZDLVE1Y_cdlLbgKUHm9qpk2Ci3UqVjRTaNLfuXMtdkRp-xx6AgF6P9HXi-9GOdJHSny8gv2idCXtD3aXqZw/s400/DSC04050.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248482033009571458" />Then we arrived in Dublin and the streets of Temple Bar, where our hostel was. And just to put this in persepective, our entire college travelled together and stayed together in one hostel, because there are only 26 of us. So this is us walking through the streets together.<div><br /><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMcOS8o11nvEniMYFZ358AEwswNJWd_7GjFk0H1031fCg6CAY_hJUPw4X650zDh1jyC3ybr4u0l4_nbF8m56AE4eSprc_bueP4amWzT9i52OWZU-zowFfoQNturBNmKU1tSoipdIwzn7Nn/s400/DSC04052.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248481022907732402" />After one of our professors took us to like 5 contemporary art galleries Eliza and I went off wandering and exploring Dublin. We found some good places to eat, some cool bookstores, awesome ice cream and we kept an eye out for where things were going to be happening the next night on culture night. We hung out on one of the statues on the main street, O'Connell Street. I tried to find the statue Grandpa climbed and took a picture from but I couldn't so this is one view looking down the same street I think he told me to go. I tried....</div><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7XHAo0rJWDwK7Wv6uWRsLSJUWqFbdHSZu-EK9FVPXREGylViX3irArOurjrireuIgRJqV0e4pDFvacS071S5gpIvXP5d7YsJezSWfQuXGWmeZ4xXYT_6hyphenhyphen1fq_3A1ZeUD3MlBUmprHr_6/s1600-h/DSC04063.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7XHAo0rJWDwK7Wv6uWRsLSJUWqFbdHSZu-EK9FVPXREGylViX3irArOurjrireuIgRJqV0e4pDFvacS071S5gpIvXP5d7YsJezSWfQuXGWmeZ4xXYT_6hyphenhyphen1fq_3A1ZeUD3MlBUmprHr_6/s400/DSC04063.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248482028225727442" /></a></div><div>Once again, I have more hostel pictures. We all really got attached to all of our hostel rooms. They were so cozy and when you are in such close quarters it is hard not to get to know people and just laugh about everything so we really enjoyed hanging out in the hostel. Which is good for bonding, but not good for exploring the city. Haha. So we had to find a good balance. But this picture shows that where my housemates are standing is the only open area in the whole room. Om the right wall there is one bunk bed you can see that leads right up to the window. And next to the mirror, on the left hand wall are two other sets of bunk beds that also lead right up to the window with about a foot and a half of space between each bunk bed on either side of the room. It was awesome. The windows were huge and you could stand on the ledge and lean out the window. It was so much fun. More hostel pics and dublin pics in the next post. <br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-63587175228697411312008-09-21T07:10:00.000-07:002008-09-21T07:23:13.169-07:00Galway Post 2<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmmz0StFSbGMqNvfU1fTUIMffEy3UdGgqzkhlKS3Tb_zwDDpItbh5lFbf9976ugTH8oCWRNxF4uGOK2_Z_7DInzhYF9p5Z0Ue0B2iqtcoqGFeW8065YiywYL-BV8fYCoV5sGi6-xlnWZca/s1600-h/DSC03994.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmmz0StFSbGMqNvfU1fTUIMffEy3UdGgqzkhlKS3Tb_zwDDpItbh5lFbf9976ugTH8oCWRNxF4uGOK2_Z_7DInzhYF9p5Z0Ue0B2iqtcoqGFeW8065YiywYL-BV8fYCoV5sGi6-xlnWZca/s400/DSC03994.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248477970303099746" /></a>I didnt get any whole room views of the hostel (becuase I'm dumb haha) but I added some of these ones just documenting hanging out and simultaneously making a huge mess of the room. But im taking the picture from one bunk bed. The second bunk bed you can see to the right, the third one you can see by the striped pillows way to the right. The picture below was taken from the same place so that is the fourth bunk bed and then mike slept on a mattress on the floor. So all in all there are 9 beds. Awesome. :P<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLqBvY8FTZEL-tNoho3TNhP7TRtr2VpFwfpdg4JCQkH0E29K7DaXHdbrdaDM2IUI8so5WpHd-fvUX8_zsvXz3ee9liNItQtpiXxuIl4Mg0gfeEHvhnFlCSO1yTV1-5Cp8DXFJ07uE1ngZR/s1600-h/DSC03991.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLqBvY8FTZEL-tNoho3TNhP7TRtr2VpFwfpdg4JCQkH0E29K7DaXHdbrdaDM2IUI8so5WpHd-fvUX8_zsvXz3ee9liNItQtpiXxuIl4Mg0gfeEHvhnFlCSO1yTV1-5Cp8DXFJ07uE1ngZR/s400/DSC03991.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248477982410891394" /></a>We did a lot of hanging out in the hostels resting up from our long days of walking, tours, gallery visits, and museum outings. It was mostly historical stuff but there was an exhibition full of photographs and prints by this man Paidric Reaney, if I remember correctly. I have it written down somewhere. :) But the prints fascinated me and so I took some pictures so I could hopefully track him down on the internet and learn more about his work. The rest of our time in Galway we just hung out and walked around and went food shopping so that is it for this city. It was so much fun and I would love to go back and explore more of the stuff on the side streets and the galleries.</div>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-40630001690486743972008-09-21T06:49:00.000-07:002008-09-21T07:10:48.510-07:00Galway Post 1 (what a boring title)<div>Ok. I am going to try and recap the past week and a half because lots of fun and exciting things have happened. But that is a lot of time to cover so I'm going to pick select pictures and talk about them so i'll be leaving out a lot of detail but i'll pick the fun ones for you. :P</div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWMksIwdi2XNezKtYga5e88HgGdFEVcug8WG3JWfxzM100c9aNKwRnuZkJ0TfizkZtA4GyicsOJSk13LX50M6S2YjdWccHSjj9BMKJPZZ7TkPWX3YQOGPeA38u-OkmESXEGapbrXTE6CVf/s1600-h/DSC_0157.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWMksIwdi2XNezKtYga5e88HgGdFEVcug8WG3JWfxzM100c9aNKwRnuZkJ0TfizkZtA4GyicsOJSk13LX50M6S2YjdWccHSjj9BMKJPZZ7TkPWX3YQOGPeA38u-OkmESXEGapbrXTE6CVf/s400/DSC_0157.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248472734452855906" /></a>Ok so the picture above is one of the many Martello towers dotting the Irish coast. We went to a field trip on the Flaggy Shore about 25 minutes from Ballyvaughan with our Irish Studies Professor Gordon D'arcy. Anyway, the english were worried about Napolean attacking through Galway bay so they built these towers around the bay with cannons on the top. If one of the soldiers were to see Napoleans fleet they would set off the cannons. Not, in defense but to warn the next Martello Tower that there was danger. Once the next tower got the message they as well fired cannons and this let the soldiers in the tower in Galway know to alert the army and navy, etc, etc. The fun part about going here, besides listening to Gordon's insane capability to know everything about everything, was that we ot to climb into the tower. You can see the rope dangling down outside the little window. First you climb up that, without slipping on the perfectly smooth outer surface of the tower, then you had to climb down that same rope inside, so you pull the rope up and drop it down inside. Now you're in the tower. However there is another rope on the other side which you can climb up and then climb the stairs and get to the very top of the tower. Now that seems easy enough. False. It was quite an adventure and a good bonding activity to build trust in each other, give people boosts, help them with insructions and so on. It was awesome. And then of course to get out you climb down the stairs. Climb down the rope. Climb up the first rope to get to the window in the wall, and then down the same rope out from where you first came. It was so fun. I of course got some cut and bruises but it as all worth it. :)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt-s7kQRJufSRIyA4VNPUxP1er9myjEvzQ7HhV3k91kNX8RgOOsrOc1qfb1ZaYia9nBcPXgk6rAvPuRv4NqZunro_mj3KgwfO17zRpifUiL2k0uCl1qkEKlTS7nGWzY6nBsMxl3Mlpj3nA/s1600-h/DSC_0187.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt-s7kQRJufSRIyA4VNPUxP1er9myjEvzQ7HhV3k91kNX8RgOOsrOc1qfb1ZaYia9nBcPXgk6rAvPuRv4NqZunro_mj3KgwfO17zRpifUiL2k0uCl1qkEKlTS7nGWzY6nBsMxl3Mlpj3nA/s400/DSC_0187.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248472743108179778" /></a>Here is the infamous Gordon. One of our housemates does push ups randomly around the house and everywhere and Gordon saw him doing some and challenged him. And of course, Gordon won. Twice. THis was the second challenge and he one once again. It is because we have a theory that Gordon is God. And its true. :P<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijmSpKi03G1H34nB1wT3kW4uMlCqakym7I_tTI5aPqqEjOZsV-2Tu_Pg3Lsjv1Isq6VFG3XuZH4mo0-zwayvFFZ_kWdjAFX6Bvwew-xGna-p79edDXX-ukmlBVzYvYPcCbeDu-dP2CDgOZ/s1600-h/DSC03979.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijmSpKi03G1H34nB1wT3kW4uMlCqakym7I_tTI5aPqqEjOZsV-2Tu_Pg3Lsjv1Isq6VFG3XuZH4mo0-zwayvFFZ_kWdjAFX6Bvwew-xGna-p79edDXX-ukmlBVzYvYPcCbeDu-dP2CDgOZ/s400/DSC03979.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248472745972477250" /></a>This brings me to Galway, the next day. This picture is of the rose window and insane organ inside the Cathedral in Galway. We went here on the first day during our tour, which was one of the best tours I've been on. I'll save the other pictures though for flickr because I don't want to explain all of them. You guys can ask me if their is a picture you wan tot know more about. Anyway, we actually went to mass the next day to hear the organ being played and we were blown away. Its was a beautiful sound. I was really happy we all went.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYKsjkn4PSMz7YDuQpzH6hZREBCvjhSoBlww5Ow7d6rfoLmX2B1lbiPpWa2_gO8lbLq43v-rUbSiNPXAly4eU1R4WowdEEEAxoQEwYhA4OjCdyQc2_yt1QAJXj-sXEduWQ5YQh729VdND-/s1600-h/DSC03980.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYKsjkn4PSMz7YDuQpzH6hZREBCvjhSoBlww5Ow7d6rfoLmX2B1lbiPpWa2_gO8lbLq43v-rUbSiNPXAly4eU1R4WowdEEEAxoQEwYhA4OjCdyQc2_yt1QAJXj-sXEduWQ5YQh729VdND-/s400/DSC03980.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248472757669327266" /></a>After the tour we went to the farmers market. THis was one of the most visually aesthetically pleasing stand so I took a picture, not because I actually liked the olives. hahaha. But the farmers' markets here are insane and I will miss them greatly when I go home.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu2iTBwgT_Qx0OqeXOYTVoVXziYBqw5LBwpaHIVPCbrxqI8HFl6EcaI2OTOU1e5QChZZioJqPSW4v635HCDHS8EpQwrvPlM37aYfCXbV42yzceXIOX4z_5JMhS1lMhcTYwtmImThe2tOmo/s1600-h/DSC03986.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu2iTBwgT_Qx0OqeXOYTVoVXziYBqw5LBwpaHIVPCbrxqI8HFl6EcaI2OTOU1e5QChZZioJqPSW4v635HCDHS8EpQwrvPlM37aYfCXbV42yzceXIOX4z_5JMhS1lMhcTYwtmImThe2tOmo/s400/DSC03986.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248472760613975202" /></a>Then we checked into our hostel. This isn't the best picture but I was reading on the window ledge nook while we were all hanging out getting ready for dinner and stuff. and the room was quite crowded with 9 people in it so I was out of the way for a little while. I love that window. I would request that room again just for the window. We had so much fun all staying in one room we wanted to move into one room when we got home. </div>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-29757312646546079092008-09-16T03:09:00.000-07:002008-09-16T03:15:25.264-07:00Weekend Travel: We went to an Irish college town, Galway, and came out alive! This weekend some of the housemates and I went to Galway. I dont have my camera cord right now but just wanted to give a quick synopsis before I have time later tonight to really sit down and give you the experience. And I want to share it with you because it was so much fun. The quick synopsis is we walked around. Had a grand time at the farmers market. Had a pint with Joe the computer guy and Larry, our drawing and painting prof. Chilled at the hostel because there were nine of us in one room the size of my room at home. Went out on the town and saw some good bands. Woke up and had breakfast. Walked around all day long shopping, eating, visiting free museums. Went food shopping. CAme home. Ate our first real meal in 48 hours. Passed out. It was quite the whirlwind tour of Galway but it was definitely a good one. Pictures should be coming to enhance the story and make it more fun. And I'm going to put some pictures on flickr and post the link so you guys can really stalk me. :) Love you all.Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-69729651237322031972008-09-11T08:00:00.000-07:002008-09-11T08:05:14.211-07:00Busy, busy, busyHey guys. I haven't been on all week because classes started and I am already extremely busy. And I love it. I've got to be brief because I want to do some reading in the library before it closes. WE have the best little library in the world. I've never seen an art library like this. Its awesome. I would live there. BUt anyway, I have an assignment for photo and for mixed media. I got a lot done during figure drawing and I can't wait to see what we do next week. And I met with one of my professors, Larry, about my advanced drawing class. THat one is cool becuase it is kind of like an independent study. I might be incorporating the stone walls of the burren into my project and exploring their grand geological and social importance to the place that I am in. I will also be in Galway all weekend so I've got a full plate for sure and couldn't be happier. And to top it off tonight we are going ceili dancing in Kilfenora. Like the set dancing in a group. I'm very excited to see how hard it is and if any small past experience in irish step will help me. :) Ok, pictures from Galway are on the way, I'm sure. Love you all!Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141814365670453667.post-24429526697804196852008-09-06T11:23:00.000-07:002008-09-06T12:07:43.292-07:00Full.The past couple days have continued to be as good as the last. More orientation stuff last wednesday and thursday. However Friday we had our first Irish Studies field trip. My professor, Gordon D'Arcy is awesome. I am so excited for this class. We traveled all around Connemara, which is about 8 miles across Galway Bay from Ballyvaughan. WE were on the bus for most of the day but we got to see so much of the land. The landscape is incredibly different from the Burren. They are almost opposites. While the Burren and Connemara both have their fair share of rock the Burren is made up of limestone while Connemara has igneous and metamorphic rock. This actually makes the soil more acidic, not basic like the limestone, and so vast boglands are found in connemara. That is where they did the peat from. Which by the way Noonie I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the smell of the peat fires. It was on my to-do list to write about it on here but I was away from the computers for a bit. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhBT-3ZEJPBdJoyc_gMgZTCg6-WVeg7BRT9IfhKcEE7_A8Edo1YfjKKa92yDP-Oq1L8vIz9HovozM4aeQWl3cpmVEOByKgFvMdrd198kLwRAZ_bT2cYSIuViwMRLn943WN0RsyTykdHgqI/s400/DSC_0027.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242982297482945234" />And we saw this cool neo-gothic abbey which is behind me.<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVkYfw2iyHIhBO2j9I3HcglJnXfnkjmpofYX2HeEsDyONrButPyQzfRLoUpSGBbFELhWY9SQknObSVzyPmzBF4rz8nXxeWF4xw3LluetB_zDk8lYWPlvSQtwDVZMYN2lCtJML_jRVmLp1y/s400/DSC_0053.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242982297924807426" />We also visited the beaches in Connemara which mom tells me that some of you that are reading this may have also been too. Let me know if you recognize any of the names. THe first one was Mannen beach. I think. I might not have the names quite right. BUt the sand was formed of the fossilized bits of parts of the algae in the sea. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs8E1eZ69ouKrwJbZ85UsQjS_9NlTEMsPgfxOgVrpBzN_8nNkv65fO5GPxknU2dTEn43exZGsaVucIKxizwTR0JMLMzxHNk2Wt2Nzye_fazNopIvKNbRt_PAVx8jBTN6VeT_OkujY0Bca3/s400/DSC_0058.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242982306956585010" />It was pretty cool. I had a bag with me so I was the dork with the bag of sand. Love it. :P And then we went to Dog's Bay which was totally different. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTAkOsEsZEAifpAQ6htwDKNEOqOz41QutDMyTND84GR-P-EQQkEWpAt1z5re91M4zR4_GmlgnG0JpNLNXfr9XJENwiG9CYYNw9XyuRL3Yt7NetGHpETg0o5AhmX814-v7zkR9pW2mtBNS4/s400/DSC_0076.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242982310889971426" /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD6jtIiBQwmChyphenhyphenhEDqrhTpdCpE2i4oxG3CnUM3b0DlIdGesx4W0Yma9yl9dpd-aUsvNUZSCXRvQsQyprrI44FnFT-fZ2GeVuf-8_WBqaqrNHo6baw9NB0YFgZhrg107oMix4hnc_ZBz0_Q/s400/DSC_0077.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242982316800203122" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">THere was gorgeous fine white sand and crystal clear water. Granted that bag is totally stuffed. :)</div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVdAtqSJTNFce40yqMcJsliLT-MCmv9gGUc8k-YryPu0Tz5FuXhk2YpatSrbWIBfJkscHLjGtbpZ_iDAVLwZwMop87TmZr03zYlYIFPsnPzifJPgqANdkQCQ5Fipgp8qqCSNz-ffTepWn-/s400/DSC_0110.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242983574648084690" /><div>When we got home though and loaded up the fridges to the brim (imagine 10 kids and two small fridges), the sun was shining like it had been for the most part and I couldn't waste it inside. Two of my housemates, Matt and Ryan, were headed up the burren (the rocky hill/mountain behind the house) and so I joined them. It is now the third time that I have been up the burren and it is getting easier and easier. We have been training well. :) </div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEGs9bbq1FZ6fQ96fFiCIKvSlklMJgVQT0jEndwJeU6HWrPfe2ptwzEq7cHt2Lvb1rMLP5x2NdlcbrYC0aLdMeW0-n3VX5C-kYzcK3c-SlkQ0xX499NnH83dV7fyC60T64FeF0aE6-fzcz/s400/DSC_0113.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242983588475819538" /><div>Matt, above, had one of those old four by five cameras that you have to have a blanket over it to keep the sunlight out and he was taking some photos and then we got to the top. It was gorgeous. I'll let the pictures do the talking. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuwOsGBCswPi-5XBPJBpk7aNzXVHaaokwk7q_I8pp15n3KqJHsO-4vMhEV4K-2MEdXD4B-FYrt3XOUErjiWK4X4g8Th4c0F_LpuHXbcnZ64-Rf3YdttocX-HQLE6iRAdQegl3ULtIr1fWn/s400/DSC_0125.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242983592171186706" /><div>And then MAtt wanted to do one last photo at the top and wanted to do a portrait so I was the lucky model. I cant wait to see the result. He is so talented I can't even imagine how sick it is going to be. If I can get my hands on a print if its good I would love to. So that kind of brings me to now. Its Matt's birthday tonight at midnight so we will have to see what how he wants to celebrate. Time to walk back before the sun totally sets. Love all of you and I'll be back on again when school starts monday. :)</div>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05586259169114108838noreply@blogger.com8
